Pneumonia Appropriate Care Measure
Pneumonia is an inflammation of the lungs caused by a viral or bacterial infection. This infection can fill the lungs with mucus and lower the oxygen level in the blood. Symptoms can include fever, fatigue, difficulty breathing, chills, a "wet" cough, and chest pain.
The eight pneumonia measures are:
| PN-1 | Oygenation Assessment |
| PN-2 | Pneumococcal Vaccination |
| PN-3a | Blood Culture within 24 hours of Arrival |
| PN-3b | Blood Culture Before Antibiotic (Emergency Department) |
| PN-4 | Adult Smoking Cessation Advice/Counseling |
| PN-5b | Initial Antibiotic Given Within 4 Hours of Arrival |
| PN-6 | Given the Most Appropriate Initial Antibiotics |
| PN-7 | Influenza (Flu) Vaccination |
The graphs at this link illustrate the “composite” measure of how consistently our hospitals provided evidence-based care for Pneumonia in 2007.
