New technology at Baptist East puts lung lesions inReachâ„¢
Lesions or nodules in the outer reaches of the lungs can be identified and, in some cases, treated with electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy. The new technology at Baptist Hospital East, employed by Thoracic Surgeons Jonathan Kraut, MD, and Robert Linker, MD, allows them to reach deep into the airways to locate pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions without any incisions or surgery. The pair is the first in Kentucky to use the technology.
The procedure offers a more accurate diagnosis with less risk of complications, and is suited to all patients, including those with poor lung function from conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and emphysema.
